Square Dance Magic + Blogger Fun!

Square Dance Magic + Blogger Fun!

It’s a bit of a conundrum to enjoy a three day weekend when you work from home! While most of my weekend was spent doing little work and mostly relaxing, the first half was filled with tons of blogger happenings.

Thursday night I met up with Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage for drinks;  she was here visiting Andrea over the weekend. Then Friday afternoon, Veronicka, Andrea, Emily and I got together for a few hours on the lakefront. Andrea lent Emily and I her very talented photography services for an upcoming project we’re working on. More on that in the coming weeks! :)

That evening the Randolph Street Market hosted a blogger happy hour in honor of their season opening market over the weekend! I finally got to meet Leilani who’s sporting that amazing pink vintage dress. She’s a fellow vintage lover and shopper, I’m quite sure we’ve got many thrifting trips ahead of us!!!

Veronika kindly took my outfit photos, which are some of my all time favorites! She captured the magic of this vintage square dancing skirt! The not so magical part? Spinning around and having your skirt fly up in front of a group of ladies, ha! Only the PG photos made it to the blog….

Last Friday I attended a lovely cocktail reception hosted by the very beautiful and sweet Nikia for the Bill Cunningham movie, which honestly – I haven’t seen. BUT…. would I turn down an opportunity to get pretty, hang out with some local bloggers and drink wine? Nope. Not a chance!

I don’t get to take outdoor photos often, or have someone else take them, so I happily let Emily snap my photos for a change! I hopped into this little corridor, an entry way to a flower shop, and though I didn’t realize until later – it suits my outfit well! The dress code for the event was “dress to impress”, but honestly, all I wanted was to feel comfortable and pretty.

When I’ve worn this dress in the past, it’s with something underneath it. Tossing a blouse over it totally gave it a new feel by accentuating the collar and fullness of the skirt. Naturally, I wore a crinoline underneath. What can I say? I love a full, voluminous skirt!

Also, this says pretty much everything you need to know about me:

Weekend Archives: Garfield Park Conservatory

Saturday was kind of the best day ever. Mark and I headed to an early brunch, and with no immediate plans or obligations after (a rarity), we weren’t quite ready to head home right after. We made our way to one of my favorite spots in Chicago, the Garfield Park Conservatory. It’s a beautiful place that’s green and lush very day of the year. Bonus: it’s free!

Since it was an unplanned trip, I didn’t have my camera, but here are some snaps from my phone.

On our way home, we got purposely lost and aimlessly drove around while finishing listenng an episode of This American Life. Eventually we made our way to our favorite gelateria for espresso and a cold treat! Then we indulged in an afternoon nap. Lately we haven’t taken the time to spend much “quality” time together;  it was so refreshing to spend a few relaxing, lazy hours with no agenda.

Saturday reminded me that it’s essential that take time for the two of us; I’m itching for a vacation! We love to travel and used to one international trip a year, but haven’t been on a proper vacation since Peru in 2009. Alaska is next on our domestic list, and Italy on our international. Time to start planning!

Do you have any upcoming trips planned?

Day for Night

I hate blogging about the weather, but seriously, Chicago’s weather has been totally neurotic these past two weeks. Last week it was 90 degrees and the AC was on, this week it’s been as low as the 30′s, requiring heat again!

I wore this on Tuesday while photographing some items for the shop. There’s a room in our building’s basement that’s not being used, which I decided to give a shot for shop pics.  Given my life long obsession with cabins, the cedar paneled walls make my heart melt a little. This just may be my perfect shop back round!

The temperature in the basement is always quite cool, so I threw on this white wrap for a little coverage and warmth. Pretty sure this “dress” is actually a nightgown, but I love its cream lace, soft cotton, and pintuck pleats at the neck. It’s way too big on me; it’s going to require a trip to the tailor, but after that – belted with some wedges….this is the perfect summer dress. I’m happy I got one wearing in with some boots and tights, though!
