Nice Costume

Nice Costume

Friday I had a really good day. This is what I wore while working, and when Mark got home from work, we went out to dinner to celebrate. I ran into our local convenience store on our way, and one of the ladies there who knows me (they have a USPS outlet, so I’m frequently there mailing packages. Service is about 100x better than any actual USPS location, but I digress….) asked if I was “dressed up”. Confused, I looked down at myself and said, “Uhh, no….not really?” They almost always see me in a dress, and a 50s day dress doesn’t really scream fancy to me.

When we reached the restaurant, a girl stopped me and told me she loved my “costume”! Looking back, that’s what the convenience store lady was asking me!

It totally didn’t register that it’s Halloween weekend, and apparently I was dressed like a 1950s housewife. Or something. What does it say about you when people assume you’re wearing a costume, but it’s your everyday wear?!

Wearing: All vintage, including the 60s gold flats I’m wearing (not seen).

Fall Frenzy

Fall Frenzy

Oh hey there, friends. I’ve been seriously MIA around these parts this month! I’ve been working a gazillion hours, getting Archives more organized. When I took this business on full time, I failed to make many changes to how I ran it. Meaning, while I worked on it full time, I did little to formally maintain it as a business. The last few weeks I’ve really buckled down and got my shit together. Most days I’ve been in leggings and a sweater up to my eyeballs in spreadsheets. A fashionable lady this does not make!

Example: what I wore to walk the dog this morning, and will prob work in all day (minus the sunglasses…) HOT MESS.

A few weeks ago,  I had a great visitor – Stephanie from Those Tricks! We had a fun, indulgent weekend of thrifting, vintage shopping and eating at some seriously tasty places. Steph recently joined Weight Watchers, and I learned a lot from watching her make choices about what she ate. The day she left, I signed my (fat) ass up. What a wake up call! I realized I’m not very good at being accountable…especially when it comes to things like CHEESE. I’ll eat cheese at every meal if left to my own devices. I’m eating a lot more vegetables, less starches at fats and feeling really good. So we’ll see how that goes.

October has been super busy, but yielded a lot of overdue work finally completed. I got some around the house projects completed, made more homemade meals, tried to be a better girlfriend/dog mom and DO ALL THE THINGS. I haven’t had much time for the blog, but I’m working on that. :)

Even when I don’t show up here, I’m almost always on Twitter!

Keeping Cold

Keeping Cold

Fall means I get to wear all of my favorite things at the same time: boots, plaid and layers! I recently thrifted this rad two-tone vest in the mens section, and it’s been a go-to item ever since. This week has been especially blustery and chilly AND I LOVE IT! Though we’ve yet to turn on the heat, which is why I’m wearing this vest indoors. Once it goes on, it’ll be on till March or April, trying to hold off as long as possible!

Wearing: Flannel: F21, Skirt/Boots/Vest: Vintage, Glasses: Warby Parker

Chicago! Come Learn: Thrifting 101

Chicago! Come Learn: Thrifting 101

When someone asks what I do for a living, the first question asked is “Where do you get your stuff?”,  followed by wondering how I find vintage amongst the sea of chaos in a thrift store. Well Chicagoans, I’m revealing (some of) my secrets!

I’m thrilled to partner up with Dabble to bring you Thrifting 101: Vintage Shopping on a Budget!

November 1st, we’ll meet and discuss key elements of identifying vintage, how to determine if a garment will fit you without having to try on an item of questionable cleanliness, and how to care for your finds. I’ll suit you with knowledge, then we’ll visit a thrift store and apply what you’ve learned!

More info / sign up here. Thanks so much to the folks at Dabble for having me!
