Christmas Casual

Christmas Casual

I love getting dressed up – in my opinion the more formal, the better. Unfortunately, those occasions present themselves infrequently. My family is pretty casual, so while I’d love to throw on a 50′s party dress for our Christmas gatherings, I’d stick out as much as my younger cousin who shows up to every family event looking like a wayward member of the Jersey Shore cast.

Most days working at home, I schlep around in jeans and a tee (the horror!), so I look forward to having a reason to get a little dolled up. So while considering my holiday attire, I’ve been trying to find an outfit that balances my desire to sparkle with my need to stay casual. While out thrifting yesterday, I breezed past the blazers as I always do, but then heard the sound of a sweet Canadian thrifting angel saying, “Thrift that blazer, eh?”, so I decided to heed her advice and browse them for the heck of it.

I nabbed a rad tartan Pendleton blazer for the shop, and this forest green wool number for myself. I found this plaid scarf a few minutes later, and voila! Christmas is saved.

I recently rearranged my office, which now has a sewing station! Mark got me sewing classes for my birthday, so I’ll finally put this baby to use!

…when he’s not snoozing by the tree…

…or frolicking in the barely-there dusting of snow we had last week.
