Something to ponder if you’re planning on skipping a trip to the ballot box.

Something to ponder if you’re planning on skipping a trip to the ballot box.

Tomorrow, November 6th is election day in the United States.

Now, I know it’s not wise to mix personal (political) opinions in with business, but this is my space on the world wide internet and there is too much at stake in this country to keep my mouth shut. Especially when it is being predicted that 90 MILLION Americans will not show up to the ballot box tomorrow.

To my ladies in the US: can you imagine not voting because you aren’t allowed to, based on your gender? The womens suffrage movement in the US formally began in 1848 and the Constitution was not amended until 1920. Women fought for 72 YEARS to have the right to vote, the same as any man in this country could. I know it’s hard to think of a time when we weren’t allowed to vote, but it really wasn’t so long ago.

If you’re a woman voting for the Romney/Ryan ticket, please know that Mitt Romney is someone who wears and believes in magic Mormon underwear (yes, seriously). If you think that is the kind of person who should be making decisions for this country, please read this. And this. And watch this.

These are the voices of fellow Americans, not politicians.

If you are voting but know of a family member, friend, or co-worker who is not planning on voting, see if you can’t make arrangements to take them with you. While I personally find it audacious that anyone would find voting inconvenient, but if they do and you have the means to give them a ride or take public transit with them, then please do.

Not voting is lazy, and there is no excuse for it. Don’t waste your vote - cast your ballot and be heard. Consider your rights. The rights of your friends, mothers, sisters and future daughters.

And most importantly, VOTE.

(If you need any information on where/how to vote in your state, it’s available here.)

Fashion History File: Vintage vs. Anthropologie

Fashion History File: Vintage vs. Anthropologie

A few weeks ago when the Anthropologie catalog hit my doorstep, I did a doubletake. The dress on the cover is nearly an identical match to a 50s dress in our selection of vintage holiday dresses this season!

Aside from the fact that our version doesn’t have the appliques on the skirt, the color and bodice are spot on. If you needed any more proof how  today’s designers steal from fashions of the past, here it is.  Don’t you find the sash actually dates their version a bit?

Oh, did I mention our version is under $100?  Or, you could go to Anthro and pay $200…

(This was photographed before the catalog came – the poses and shoes are close, too!)

Some News & Mega Downsizing Sale!

Some News & Mega Downsizing Sale!

After a lot of thought and consideration, I’ve decided to change things around here at Archives Vintage.

I am not by any means leaving the biz – I love it too much! But honestly, selling full time is not working for me. It was great while it lasted, and I DEFINITELY do not regret taking this on nearly two years ago. It’s been quite a trip! But I gotta do what’s right for me, and that means making some adjustments.

In late July I took a part-time job in real estate as a social media coordinator, and it has been refreshing to work in a great, fun & challenging environment. More on that soon!

I am making some other life changes, and need to dramatically reduce expenses AND the amount of vintage I have.  Moving forward, I’ll be listing smaller, themed collections. I just can’t maintain the amount of stock in my holdings and the room it takes up now.

So, I am DOWNSIZING my inventory. I decided yesterday not to add the shopping cart feature here on my website after all. Please help me in this endeavor, and take a peek at the sale in the Etsy shop. Some items have been lowered in price nominally, some by 50% or more (lots of $5 & $10 items!). In the coming days, I’ll be listing NEW stuff PRICED TO SELL.

Thank you all for your support in this change!
