I haven’t taken any “formal” outfit photos in months, but here are some quick snaps of what I’ve been wearing here and there. I’ve been thrifting more stuff for me than for the shop lately, which has lead to more excitement about getting dressed. Can you tell I have a newbie crush on Instagram? Cuz I do.
The Perfect Mix
This blouse is one of my most favorite items in my closet, and it cost me a whopping $3! It’s finally chilly enough to wear again, after a summer hiatus. This cognac leather belt cost .90 and I wear it almost every day!
While thrifted finds make up a decent percentage of my closet, there are some items worthy of investing in: good jeans and good boots.

Jumping the Shark: Is It Fall Yet?!
Last week Andrea very kindly let Emily, Merl and myself tag along to the Chicago fall preview for ASOS. I’ve stalked many an item on their website, but have yet to indulge. I’m always leery of buying online from a new-to-me store, and ASOS is no exception. Their prices are fair but higher than fast fashion stores, and I had (wrongly) assumed the quality would be about the same.
Each and every garment seemed very well made – not the flimsy kind of thing that will fall apart after a few washes. I’m not the kind to gush much over “new” clothes (I am who I am – a vintage girl at heart!), but ASOS won me over – big time.
The gorgeous view we enjoyed while perusing their autumnal goods!
I’ve been using a new treatment on my hair (post coming on that, soon!), and trying to stretch the days between washes. After looking back at these photos….I definitely let it go one day too long. Yuck. Lesson learned!
Fall may not be here just yet, so I’m jumping the shark. Darker colors and (most importantly!) BOOTS have been officially re-introduced into my rotation! I had to wear something fall inspired to look at fall clothes, right?!

A Little Bit Country

Hello from the Upper Peninsula! The air is cool, crisp and fresh, unlike back home in steamy Chicago!
I grew up visiting the Northwoods once every summer, as did Mark. Little did we know we were vacationing about an hour from each other for most of our lives! My family stopped coming up here a few years ago, but Mark’s family continues the tradition, and I’m so happy to have been able to join them these last few summers. Pretty sure this is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places in the midwest.
We’ve been on long walks, enjoyed a glass of wine or three by the fire, seen some deer and even on one unfortunate occasion….a bat. And it’s only Monday! Oh, did I mention the rodeo?! Yesterday we caught the last day of the rodeo before it packed up and left town (more on that tomorrow!). Of course, I had to wear something appropriate for my first rodeo experience. A vintage square dancing skirt and my Texan cowgirl boots did just the trick.

Old Habits Just Don’t Die
One year ago TO THE DAY (!), I wrote a post titled “Old Habits Die Hard” about my packing perils for a trip to the U.P., as it is affectionately called. Once again we are off on our annual adventure to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!
Last year I packed too many fancy things, and not enough casual stuff. I made a mental note of that and ASSURED myself I wouldn’t binge-pack this time around. But let’s be real, here – I am who I am. A girl who loves pretty dresses, and more importantly OPTIONS. Having a variety of garments to choose from is essential, especially when the weather up there will run between summer and fall temps.
Not only do I need options to be properly dressed for the weather….we’re also going to the RODEO. Yes, for serious. I mind wrestled for several seconds (ok, definitely minutes….but definitely not all week) about packing a crinoline to toss under a skirt for the occasion. In the end, I decided in such a small town, I would already be overdressed in a summer dress and wedges on a regular day….it’s best not to show up looking like the city girl donning her rodeo costume. But fear not – my cowgirl boots are packed. Of course.
Depending on our internet connection, I still plan to blog while we’re away!
