The Haps

The Haps

Finally on Instagram! My handle is @archivesvintage (of course!).

To say things have been quiet around here is an understatement! Where where to begin?!

There are lots of VERY exciting changes in my life right now – some really great things are happening (no, I’m not engaged…always the first question, ha) for both myself and Archives Vintage. As soon as everything is ready to go live, this blog will be back in action and better than ever. Yes, I’ve said that more than a few times over the last year, but I promise there is going to be a flurry of activity on this site in a matter of weeks! I can’t wait to share it all with you. Fall is going to be awesome.

In the meantime, I just got a new phone and FINALLY joined Instagram! I can promise I won’t photograph every morsel that passes my lips, but I can’t promise I won’t share lots of adorable dog photos. ;)

Keeping Cold

Keeping Cold

Fall means I get to wear all of my favorite things at the same time: boots, plaid and layers! I recently thrifted this rad two-tone vest in the mens section, and it’s been a go-to item ever since. This week has been especially blustery and chilly AND I LOVE IT! Though we’ve yet to turn on the heat, which is why I’m wearing this vest indoors. Once it goes on, it’ll be on till March or April, trying to hold off as long as possible!

Fall Treats: Pumpkin Cookies

Fall Treats: Pumpkin Cookies

It’s no secret fall is the best season; crunchy leaves, cooler temps, warm beverages and PUMPKIN flavored treats! I’ll eat anything pumpkin (save for Starbucks pumpkin lattes – those are disgusting), and decided to try some pumpkin cookies at home on a chilly fall evening.

I’m a train wreck in the kitchen, but these were super easy! If I can do it, you can! Recipe below.

Pumpkin Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, room temp
1 cup sugar
1 15 oz can of pumpkin
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups ap flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp pumpkin spice
1/2 tsp salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add pumpkin, vanilla, and egg. Sift together dry ingredients, then combine with the rest and mix until batter forms. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. I took them out while they were still quite soft, but not liquidy. This kept them very moist and almost cake-like, yum!

Many pumpkin recipes call for chocolate chips or nuts, but I wanted straight up pumpkin!

Jealous Hairstylists & Kind People: A Romantic Fall ‘Do

Jealous Hairstylists & Kind People: A Romantic Fall ‘Do

I’ve been growing my hair our for ages. Well, specifically since I went to Mark’s hairstylist about 4 years ago. While cutting my locks, he asked how I knew Mark. I told him we were dating, and the scissors stopped instantly. “Oh. Really?“, he asked, his tone changing immediately. The rest of the appointment he was eerily silent, and I walked out with the worst haircut I’ve ever had. A friend best described it as “medieval page boy”. Jealous much, Bobby?

My hair has finally recovered from the hot mess Bobby created, and is a length I can do some fun things with. The lovely Ariel of Pomp and Pride asked if she could send me some pretty hair things she has no use for with her pixie cut; I happily accepted!

This piece is so whimsical and perfect for fall; I couldn’t help but put aside my fear of butterflies and build a romantic ‘do around it.

Fall Forest

Fall Forest

Remember when I attended the Asos Fall preview a few weeks back? To my surprise, they emailed a gift certificate as a thank you a few days later! I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to narrow down my choices, but eventually settled on this gorgeous forest print dress (and a blouse).

It’s fairly perfect for fall….save for the fact that it’s totally sheer and not warm at all. The back is pretty low, and as I wore this to a work thing for Mark, turned it around so it looks like a scoop neck. No use in showing too much skin. Added some layers underneath, cinched the waist and called it a day!
