Seriously The Best Shoes Ever

Seriously The Best Shoes Ever

Last weekend Mark and I trekked out to the ‘burbs for a day of shopping. It was hot out and I wanted a no fuss outfit for walking around and trying things on. I threw on a summer dress and these heels. Dress = good idea. Heels = bad idea. By the end of the day I was hobbling around like a miserable jerk.

That night, after consulting with Amanda who has a pair, I ordered these Kork Ease. I’d been contemplating buying a pair for MONTHS, feeling the need for a no nonsense go-to pair of wedges I could wear for hours without being in total misery. They arrived on Friday and I haven’t worn another pair of shoes since – they are INCREDIBLY comfy and light!

Closet Overhaul: From Mess to Success!

Closet Overhaul: From Mess to Success!

While Mark was recently out of town, I took the time to tackle a project that was looooong overdue: a closet clean out! Since we have limited storage space and not the largest closet, we’re actually pretty good at getting rid of unworn items every few months. However, our closet organization skills are sub-par. The space is long and narrow, so it quickly gets messy and impossible to navigate. It’s safe to say it had reached a new low point.

I don’t sleep well when he’s away, so the first night he was gone, so I stayed up late and attacked it!

Instead of just putting things away as per usual, I took e v e r y t h i n g out and started from scratch. Taking everything out forced me to re-think the entire space, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

Some tips for closet organization:

  • If you hang all your clothes in the same place all the time, its easy to feel uninspired and bored. There are some pieces in my closet I tend to constantly gloss over for one reason or another. Choosing a new hanging order has made me rethink each piece. I’d previously hung my clothing according to garment type: skirts together, dresses together, etc. Now, I have everything grouped by color! Mixing the order up has sparked new pairings I wouldn’t have previously thought to wear together.

I tend to hoard jewelry, which can easily lead to a cluttered mess if not organized.

  • Having lots of small, pretty displays for accessories keeps your selection accessible, and it looks great, too!

Shoes and belts!

  • Keep belts rolled up in a basket, and easily accessible. Ok…so these aren’t rolled, but they’re in a basket! I have a hard time keeping them neat and tidy.
  • Use empty wine bottles to prop up boot shafts. You’ll maintain the integrity of the boot longer!
  • Shoe racks are your friend!

Mark has a plethora of sweaters, which he wears even during warmer months. Previously, they were shoved in drawers and we were running out of dresser space.

  • Grouped by color and placed over head on a shelf, he can always see and reach them quickly. Drawer space is opened up, andthe top shelf no longer looks like a bomb hit it.

As you can see, I’m pretty into baskets – all of these came from Target. I keep extra blankets and linens for guests stored above. Vintage furs and purses are stored in a slim bookshelf (also from Tar-jeeh). I keep them on the higher shelves so Atlas can’t get to them!

If you’re not looking to start from scratch but need a quick closet pick me up, I would highly suggest rearranging your hanging garments in a new order. Just seeing them grouped differently will enliven your sartorial selection!

It Started Out Normal…

It Started Out Normal…

Yesterday my camera had some kind of melt down, and half way through my outfit photos, it up and died! Usually I start with full body shots and move in for the detail shots later, but this time out of sheer excitement, I started from the bottom up.

You see, Saturday as Kim and I were setting up our booth for the Vintage Bazaar, she pulled out this pair of Zodiac boots. She was trying to tell me a story about them (some unknowing teenagers at the thrift store were making fun of their “ugliness”. Your loss, bitches!!!!!), but I rudely cut her off before she had a chance to finish. “ARE THOSE ZODIACS?! WHAT SIZE ARE THEY?!” I exclaimed and tried to keep myself from greedily ripping them from her hands before she could say, “uhh…size 8 1/2?”.

Zodiac is my most favorite brand of vintage boots – yes, even over Frye! I have a pair in the shop that are a size 6, which I have fruitlessly tried to make fit on my feet since they day I found them. They tend to run small, and it’s hard to find them in my size 8 – a fairly common shoe size. Kim gave me an awesome deal on these, and I’ve basically been living in them since Saturday.

This is as far as I got before my camera crapped out. I figured I’d try and take some photobooth pics to finish things off. It started out normal and then….well, I think this is what happens when one works from home:

MidWest Fashion Blogger Meetup

Update: A pic of the whole group! From Gina.

Sunday was the Midwest Blogger Meetup – so fun! I met so many lovely new ladies, plus got to meet some of my favorite bloggers I’ve been following for a long time! This is what I wore:

Dress: H&M, Boots: Vintage, Necklace/Bracelets: F21, Earrings: Vintage

Meeting bloggers in person is so interesting, because sometimes you can really get a genuine feel for someones personality through their blog, and sometimes they are nothing like you would expect! I don’t mean that in a negative way at all – its just interesting getting to “know” someone through photographs of them, and then actually interact with them in person. Point is, I want to be sure that my personality is represented here. That’s why occasionally goofy pics like this will turn up:
Jump shot fail.
We had a lovely brunch in the Gold Coast, everyone was so sweet. Mimosas were sipped, pancakes enjoyed and lots of shop talk was had. Honestly, the shop talk was my favorite part. None of my friends blog, so it was great to talk to other ladies involved in the same community. I’m sure this won’t be the last blogger meet up, and I can’t wait to see more of these ladies and meet other bloggers, too!
After brunch we headed outside and (of course!) snapped some pics! I don’t have any from our outside adventure, but I know others do and will have them posted soon. Here’s Cher of Shoe A Day (one of the organizers of the brunch) with one of those shoe silly bands or whatever those crazy things are called:
Oh, and if you want to see my fav image from the meetup, you can find it here! :)
Bonus: we got gift bags! Spotted Moth, Shop Ruche and We Love Colors kindly sent us home with some fun stuff! I got some lovely hair accessories from Ruche, and these bright sunflower trouser socks from WLC. At first I was like…um, what will I do with this color?!
But then, magic:
Mark and I did some organizing in our storage space last night, and I found a pair of shoes I have NEVER worn! WHAT?! I don’t know how I forgot about them, or how they ended up in the basement. I had been on the hunt for some suede heels for fall – and what do ya know, here some brand new ones show up in my own home. How amazing is that? Oh – and….look what they match perfectly with:
Love.

I’m in Love with These Strippa Shoes

Generally I have to shy away from any shoes with more than half an inch of height to them. I’m a heavy stepper – always have been…..you can hear me coming a mile away in ballet flats. Add a lifetime of extreme clumsiness and a paralyzing fear of heights – stilettos, heels, etc. just don’t work for me.

This summer, wedges are everywhere.  Now that the season is more than half over, and months of drooling over this pair, I finally took the plunge. As I excitedly pulled them out of the box and immediately stepped into them, my boyfriend asked where I was planning on wearing “those stripper shoes”. So, either he doesn’t know anything about fashion or I look like a stripper wearing them.

These are so light and comfy! The pink champagne color keeps them versatile; they go great with jeans, shorts and dresses. I’m confident I’ll get a lot of wear out of them. While not dressing like a stripper.
